Pronounced: Dahn-Mooji Moo-Cheem

What: Danmuji is a a prepared food that is sold that Korean markets. It’s pickled daikon radish that has been sweetened and turned yellow. It’s commonly used in kimbap and often eaten with oily foods by itself. In this recipe, we season danmuji to make it into a delicious banchan (sidedish). Very easy and quick.

Taste: Sweet because danmuji is sweet in itself, yet savory because it’s seasoned with spices like Korean red pepper flakes, sesame oil, sesame seeds, and green onion.

How It’s Made: Cut danmuji. Add all ingredients to a medium bowl and mix with danmuji… and that’s it!

Notes & Tips:

  • You can buy danmuji at the Korean Market. It’s in the refrigerated section, usually near the kimchi. A picture of the one we bought is below.

  • DO NOT discard the danmuji liquids that is in the package. Store it in the refrigerator with the leftover danmuji you have.

Danmuji Muchim (Seasoned Yellow Pickled Radish) | 단무지 무침

Seasoned danmuji (yellow pickled daikon radish) with Korean spices that is easy, delicious, and done in one bowl.
Prep time: 5 MCook time: Total time: 5 M

Ingredients:

  • 265g danmuji (Korean yellow pickled radish, store bought)*
  • 3 Tbsp green onions, finely chopped
  • 1/2 Tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1/2 Tbsp Korean Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1 & 1/2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp sesame seeds, roasted

Instructions:

  1. Rinse 265g of danmuji under water. Then cut 265g danmuji into 0.5 cm halves and add to a medium bowl.
  2. Add remaining ingredients to the same bowl and mix: 3 Tbsp green onions (finely chopped), 1/2 Tbsp garlic (minced), 1/2 Tbsp Korean Red Pepper Flakes, 1 & 1/2 tsp sesame oil, and 1/2 Tbsp sesame seeds (roasted)
  3. Store in airtight container and refrigerate. Serve immediately.
